Instead of continuing to whine about brain drain, let's do some positive PR, showing slice of life segments that demonstrates to the rest of the country that we have talent, confidence, and endurance ...and that for better or worse we share a legacy. Despite the beaten down image of Michigan, there are younger and middle-aged college-educated people with careers, families to raise and taxes to pay. There are also successful people who have not had college opportunities who contribute substantially to the economy whether it's the family farm, or in the family business. Let's web together some pieces to create a MI social network the rest of the counry can admire; a collection of real people telling their story in 30 sec. to a minute and a 1/2 and for those who don't have high-speed internet Access, distribute it to PBS.

Hire Michigan First is legislation that is in progress to require construction companies to hire michigan workers from Michigan if they are avail. It also has clawback revisions in it to remove tax incentives from companies who don't follow the law. Extend this to all jobs. It is already in progress and You the COC is against it!!!!

Michigan colleges are some of the best in the world, not only our state. Our colleges have all become prohibitively expensive, especially for working adults looking to improve their education. I would propose that by doing community service on the beaches, roadways, college campuses or waterways (among any other places we can find that need work)citizens could earn 'credit' to be used for continuing education or to work on an advanced degree in their field. These community service ideas could include community gardens, public beach and highway cleanups, soil conservation and testing, trail grooming, etc. It could also include sharing skills, such as teaching a group of senior citizens to use the internet or a group of school children to read. This could be administered very easily by partnerships between schools, municipalities, the DNR and the colleges and universities of this great state. I would propose one central clearinghouse for approved community service venues - with a chance to propose new ideas as they are needed - and a direct connection by internet to see how many hours of credit that you would need to earn by that particular community service endeavor to take a class at a local community or 4 year college or university.

sorry to be blunt but i and many others could see this coming for many years we need to keep our jobs here not only in michigan but in all of the states that is how you keep a good economy running it is not rocket science but the government has just let this get way out of hand and you know what these other countries like china twian and many more think of us they think americans are stupid yeah they don`t give a damn about you or i or any american people we are making their countries thrive while people in a america suffer with poor paying jobs and a terrible economy they say they keep importing so much here because they don`t want to make china mad ya know what who cares we have made them a very rich country while they take all of the jobs from america and we have people who are litteraly starving right here in michigan and homeless people you know lots of younger adults are moving back with their parents because they can not afford to live on their own it is time for all of us to put our foot down and make the government change this i don`t know about you but i would rather support the united states of america rather than some country that i will probably never even see lets put america back to work i purchased a new truck in oct 2008 i have had many of these trucks bought new and it is made out of a bunch of cheap junk very cheaply made i so disliked it i got rid of it in less than a year i could go on and on but i think you get my point lets do something about this before we are all working for another country or is it already to late!!!!!!!! a
