abandoned property

Instead of hiring large construction firms to tear down abandonded property, put out contracts at a set dollar amount, giving smaller const. companies a chance, leaving the building to them, to possibly recycle the materials for extra money, keeping more workers from being laid off in slow times.

my suggestion would be to look into putting a geothermal system into the state's highway's and bridges, using wind or solar to power the system, benefits would be no heaving due to frost, thus not as many potholes, no icy bridges to lose control of a vehicle, minimal snow removal, less overtime paid to drivers, and change the light bulbs into an energy efficient led system. If using wind power, I'd set it up in the flow of traffic, so passing vehicles supplement the wind

Scuba diving in Michigan

Obviously Michigan has the largest concentration of fresh water on earth. The Great Lakes also contain thousands of shipwrecks from the 1600's to today. The problem is that very, very few people know this(in fact many divers outside the region are unaware of this resource). Many tropical destinations i.e. their respective governments and businesses advertise diving in their waters.Keep in mind that divers have money. And whereas these tropical areas have warm air and warm, clear water with coral reefs and wildlife they don't have many wrecks and the wrecks they have quickly deteriorate due to warm, salty water. Many of these places have taken to "intentionally" sinking old vessels...why?Why would people feel compelled to sink old ships and airplanes in areas that currently have some of the best reefs and sealife on the planet? They do it because they know there's a market in it.The diving community in these places work with other businesses(hotels and motels, restaurants, casinos etc.)and local government. We should do the same.

I work at a Michigan welcome center in the Upper Peninsula. One hundred and eighty two thousand tourists were recorded going through the center last year. Hardly a day goes by that a tourist doesn't ask, "Where can I get one of those Pure Michigan T-shirts you're wearing." Amazingly, you can't buy them anywhere. The T-shirts are made by a number of companies offshore (Bangladesh,Sri Lanka, etc. under a private label agreement. Apparently the Pure Michigan logo is not being capitalized on through sales to anyone on any potential product. Why not sell products with the logo, and use a portion of the profits to boost tourism?

Maple water for coffee?

It takes 40 gallons of maple sap to produce 1 gallon of syrup. That takes a lot of energy. Why not bottle the sap unreduced, pasteurize it, and sell it. It's pure and natural, and makes a great cup of coffee. Possibility for maple beer? The sugar is already added.
