Reducing standardized testing in our school system

Standardized tests have become the number one reference that we currently have to judge educational process within our school systems. Standardized tests reduce objectivity for the student within a given subject. I propose that a annual report such as the UCR ( uniform crime report) be submitted by each teacher within each school system where the teacher determines current educational standings as well as future goals of the student body as a whole. The greatest judge of educational fitness for our children is the teachers which spend the greatest amount of time with them.

Sales Tax on internet sales

It is time to institute sales tax on internet sales. Potential revenue for our struggling state is lost, at the expense of local businesses who must charge sales tax.

The Renaissance City

The possibilities for development in Detroit are endless. I suggest major tax breaks for big businesses who develop and occupy space in downtown Detroit. Creating structures such as more hotels, restaurants, and retail shopping districts would attract world conferences and possibly a future bid at the Olympics. Revitalization projects geared towards cleaning and developing Detroit's most famous streets, avenues, and boulevards such as Michigan, Woodward, Vernor, and Jefferson. We have to bridge the gaps of Michigan's most famous city to attract tourism, development, create jobs, opportunity, and desperately change the perception of the city I call home and our struggling economy. We also must make sure that we keep the film tax incentive intact. There are enormous budgets involved in making films and we can not afford to let greedy politicians take away this wonderful opportunity for our state.

Part Time Legislation

I submitted this a few minutes and found this information that I think you should post as to why we need part time legislation to save the Tax payers money to use indifferent areas that really could use it. (Although there is no universal definition as to what constitutes a full-time legislature, the Michigan Legislature is one of only eleven full-time state legislatures in the nation.Michigan's legislators receive a base salary of $79,650 per year which makes them the second-highest paid legislators in the nation, after California. Legislators also receive a $1,000 per month per diem in addition to their base salary. Unlike those states which are considered to have a part-time legislature and whose members are paid only for actual days in session, Michigan's legislators are paid an annual salary regardless of the number of meeting days and are considered to be full-time.) = $79,650 + 12,000 = $91.650.00 Now that is alot of money to pay people who go on many vacations a year!

Recycling has a long way to go. With Regional Recycling Stations, things like unused paint, old lumber, old fencing, old Materials can be shared and recycled. Even Old Roofing asphalt can be ground up and reused for roads. What you don't need may be wanted by someone else, Got old canning jars to toss, why not let someone else use them for canning? Got Old computer hardware, it can be used for repair, or even as a first computer for someone who only need internet connectivity. We Toss out many useful things, with regional collection centers, you can drop off something and get a credit to buy something there you need, got an old door but need a window? Got a sink but need a toilet? Got a roll of Fence but want a basketball hoop for your kids? State sponsored with volunteer help Regional Recycling centers could really make a difference.
