France's TGV train travels up to 200 mph. When I return to the U.S. and ride the amtrak, it's like stepping back in time. High speed trains could really connect cities such as Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Detroit giving travelers other options. A choice between a car and a train is much more enticing than a choice between a Ford and a Toyota.

The funds would stay in an interest-bearing account that could be accessed by new businesses to remodel existing abandoned structures, instead of building new. This would preserve existing green space, reduce abandoned properties, and provide incentives for entreprenuers to stay in established business districts.

It could save a few lives and make driving in the north country a little safer.

This would be more economical for school districts, and allow staff to use the 5th day for professional development once each month. Students and staff (including bus drivers and support staff) would have a 3 day weekend for enjoying the State of Michigan's resources, babysitting, travel, family time, or even to work a second job. There are districts in the State that have already moved to this schedule and support this savings idea.
