Most inventions don't make it to market because of the "PGL Syndrome": Paranoia, Greed, and Laziness. Laziness never gets to first base, greed could be used as incentive, and paranoia is justified. America is known for innovation. For that reason, it seems that Americans are getting to be a minority at American based trade shows. You can almost hear the giant sucking sound that comes from American dreams being sent offshore for immense profit to few at the collective cost of small pieces of America’s future. The knockoff artist takes down not just small companies, but whole communities of people that believe in the potential for these products to enhance our lives. It has to stop. As a former manufacturer with 30 employees, I believe I have a way with what I call the "H.O.M.E. self employment system." H.O.M.E. is an acronym that stands for Home Operated Manufacturing Enterprise whereby anyone with simple capabilities (drilling, sewing, assembly, delivery service, etc.) can make component parts of products that deny feasibility for manufacture offshore by reason of the logistics associated to size. The "footprint" of a product in a store matters greatly to mass merchandisers as it is measured in $$$'s per square inch. The H.O.M.E. system eliminates the core of overhead cost: the CEO, most of administration, and even the factory itself. Where can all that money go? How about to the workers who actually make the products. The basis of the system is simply a way to organize people to work together to share the wealth. The sweetest part is that all involved have entitlement to not only be paid to make the products, but sell them at a whopping profit. In such a system, to knock off a product means you might be stealing your neighbor's job, and I wouldn't want to be a knockoff artist living in that neighborhood. Thanks to whoever came up with GIFM.org, a great idea in itself.
